Chiller

  • While an upgraded chiller is recommended to be added at time of purchase, it is not required. This should however, be considered an item to be purchased at a later date.

  • The laser tube will get hot during operation. It is necessary to keep the tube cool to prevent damage to your laser tube. In fact new machines are setup to not fire the laser if there is no flow of water through the laser tube. Excessive heat will shorten the life of your laser tube.

  • All machines come with an and aquarium style pump which can be placed in a bucket or similar container containing distilled water.

    • These pumps do work well but also require your attention.

    • It is important to make certain, especially when doing long engraves or cuts, that your water does not get to warm.

    • Ice packs, frozen water bottles, etc. can be placed in the bucket to keep the water cool. This method does work but can be especially troublesome for those who use their machine in warmer environments. It also does not provide a constant temperature.

  • There is an additional expense if opting to buy a chiller when purchasing a machine. However, it is likely that this additional equipment will save you money in the long run by helping to extend the life of your laser tube.

  • While it is preferred to keep your laser in climate controlled environments, those who do plan to use their laser in a colder environments (ex. unheated garage or shed in northern states) may want to consider a chiller which has a built in heater for times when ambient temperatures can get below freezing.  The laser tube is glass, so freezing water will break the tube. In this case check out the LightObject chiller below which comes with a built in heater. It is also recommended by many to use RV anti-freeze in the event you have a loss of power this can act as a backup to help prevent freezing.
